It took the pre-diabetes to wake me up, and the right eating for me to finally get on the correct path.”

I started at TAL in October of 2015, in the six week boot camp.  I was 54 years old, 10 months into my second knee replacement, and well into menopause.

The fabric of our community rests with each individual member. If not in person, we invite you to shake hands with them virtually. Meet Kathy:

For anyone not yet in menopause may the force be with you!  It was, or has not, been kind to me.  It started early and hit me hard, I started with the dreaded night sweats, and weight gain.  It excelled into almost constant hot flashes (personal summer all the time) and extreme weight gain at a rapid pace.

Prior to TAL, I have always been a “gym rat” by either taking aerobic classes, spin classes or doing weights myself.  I also walked a lot, I mean a lot, like 5-8 miles several days a week.  All of that kept me in fairly good shape, or at a decent weight. At least, that’s what I thought. The reality hit me a little later, and it had everything to do with what I believed that I did “right” versus all the things I did wrong.

From boot camp to full on Crossfit I jumped in and worked out and tried to eat right.  I tried Paleo, Whole 30 etc. The keyword here is “tried”. Over the course of time, my weight never decreased.  However, throughout my CrossFit journey, I noticed that I did get stronger!

In early 2017, I was diagnosed with prediabetes and looking at medications etc.  I had mentioned it to Coach Joe in passing who immediately went into action on my behalf.

Joe had a basic idea of my eating habits so he met with Kate and Michael (owners, and Michael used to be a Type-2 Diabetic) about how to tweak my diet.  Joe came back with a different eating plan that I have been following since September 2017. My A1-C is down along with my weight.  From the day I walked into boot camp to today my weight loss is around 35 pounds, and medications to address my diabetes are not even on the horizon at this time. Yes, I intend to keep it this way, too!

It took the pre-diabetes to wake me up, and the right eating for me to finally get on the correct path.  I am so thankful for TAL, the coaches and the members who encourage everyone every day not matter what your level of fitness is.
