Time to shine your hard work from all of that training on the floor!

Watch the quick video live from Gameday a few weeks ago, or scroll down to read a quick synopsis of what to eat during competition day. (PS I’m new to this whole vlogging thing so go easy on me).

Breakfast:

Think about your first event! Do you have 2-3 hours before showtime? Is it a long run or are you about to make the crowds jaw drop with a barbell bend? What do you typically eat before you do a workout similar to this event?

For me personally, if it was a long run, I’d have something really light beforehand. Some fruit, Pedialyte, Gatorade, dried fruit are some general ideas. Don’t hit the Chinese buffet on the way in. If it is just a lift, I’d feel comfortable having a bigger meal. Some eggs, oats, Kodiak cakes, fruit are my go-to’s. If it’s a metcon right off the bat, again, know yourself and how you handle food before you work out. I stay away from a lot of fat so a typical meal would be:

3-4 egg whites

1 whole egg
A bagel/ oats/ or kodiak cakes

Fruit (raspberries/blueberries/banana)

Between events:

Protein/Gatorade shakes
Dried fruit

Jerky

This varies depending on your downtime! If you have 6 hours, go have a burrito bowl at Chipotle and kick back with a nap.

If the turnarounds are quick, use some of the light options listed above. Even something as simple as steadily sipping the Gatorade/protein combo as you warm-up will help give you the boost you need.

Post competition:

Man.. what a day!

You definitely need a nap even if you had one earlier.

Go out and chow with your teammates/friends/family and celebrate what you accomplished. I recommend Kyoto, a sushi buffet, but really it’s whatever floats your boat!

It’s not easy to eat what we typically do on competition days so here is where you fill up the tank again. Keep carbs in mind, a nice portion of protein (try to keep steady portions throughout the day even if it’s just via a supplement) and don’t be afraid to incorporate some fats again as you wind down your night.

I highly recommend staying away from a night in the cities bar hopping after a competition. Trust me, speaking from some experience, you pushed hard in those events and the way to party is with some extra food to recover and a Grade A 8pm bedtime!

I hope this helps. Feel free to reach out with questions anytime!
