Yoga for Athletes

Yoga means “to unite”.  Yoga is a union of body and mind, of strength and flexibility and of reaching simultaneously in opposite directions in order to create space and vitality in movement and mind.

Yoga has many benefits including:
Builds strength
Increases flexibility and muscle tone
Injury prevention
Brings focus to the mind
Encourages Physical and mental balance
Develops proper alignment
Reduces stress
Encourages a sense of calm and peace
Increases lung capacity for better breathing

Yoga classes, private yoga sessions and yoga therapy sessions through Integrated Movement fall into the line of yoga known as Hatha Yoga. Hatha yoga comes from the word “Ha” meaning sun and “tha” meaning moon. Quite literally it is the uniting of the sun and the moon, the uniting of opposites. Hatha yoga is the most widely practiced form of yoga in the world. Hatha Yoga uses postures (asana) and conscious breathing (pranayama) in combination with mental focus to develop awareness, strength and flexibility, and relaxation. Through proper alignment and mindful actions of the body, Hatha Yoga brings balance, strength, and a sense of well-being to the practitioner.
